Johnny Cashthe Man in Black - Johnny Cash

With his in-song support for the underdog, the thief, the tramp, the rogue and the prisoner, Johnny Cash is possibly the only non-fundamentalist, compassionate Christian Socialist in America. But his best songs are the ones about murder....

Chugga. Chigga. Chugga. I shot a man in Reno just to watch home die

With his signature well-fitted monochrome wardrobe, JC is also the only man in America who doesn't buy all his clothes in the fucking GAP.

I had a maths teacher who modelled himself on Johnny Cash. Mr McCarthy never removed his tinted glasses, though the chalk dust played havoc with his jet black Farrah slacks.

He sharpened his pencils with a Stanley knife. Chugga. Chigga. Chugga.

Boyce & Hart I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight - Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart

There's Tommy. He's lives in the Hollywood Hills. His rug is made from tiger skin, his swimming pool is rose-scented. He drives a cherry red Jaguar XKE. Bobby has a machine that blows bubbles. and his custom Jag is ice white. You wanna race?

Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart lived the 60's playboy pop dream. Ex Brill Building alumni who fled to the West Coast to write and produce songs for the Monkees, Chubby Checker and Jay & the Americans. When the Monkees got all progressive they recorded their bouncy pop tunes as a duo.

The whole pop scene got progressive. The royalty cheques got smaller. They played county fairs and toured on the nostalgia circuit. Tommy shot himself in the head in 1994.

Manifesto & Book News

If it's ever been on K-Tel or Ronco, it's in. If it features hand claps, cow bells, syrupy orchestration, walls of sound, wrecking crews, sha-la-las, toothy teen idols, candy-based metaphors for carnal acts or lyrics about hugging, squeezing and rocking all night long, it's in.

A shape-shifting vampire with a million dollar rock voice. He'll steal your heart - and have it for breakfast.
